The Chelsea Flower Show

Chelsea Flower Show 2017 is ready to blossom, which can only mean one thing – the summer season is just around the corner! The most beautiful flower show in the world kicks off on May 23th until May 27th, and we just can’t wait! There’s nothing like sunshine, flowers and bright colours to get us in the summer mood! We’ve pulled together a selection of floral patterns and vibrant colour packs to get us, our hooks and needles in the summer spirit!

The Demelza Blanket

Inspired by the character Demelza, from the BBC's adaptation of Poldark, and a series of novels by Winston Graham, this blanket is certainly a stunning design that will light up your hooks this season. Designed by Catherine Bligh, this heirloom piece was designed with Demelza's colour palette in mind and incorporated her love of flowers into each square. The Demelza blanket colour pack contains all 13 yarns needed to whip up this gorgeous design. Using ten glorious hues from the Stylecraft Special DK range the pattern for the Demelza Blanket can be found for free over on Catherine's blog here. Catherine Bligh has recently opened an exclusive shop on the Deramores site which you find here.

Rose of Avalon Colour Pack

One of the greatest experiences from The Chelsea Flower Show is of course the incredible burst of beautiful colour. Greens, yellows, pinks and blues are all strong colours reflected within the show and the Rose of Avalon blanket is an excellent representation of these bright and bold shades. Design by Helen Shrimpton, Rose of Avalon was inspired by Helen’s love of Arthurian legends and the design of the squares and the shades selected have been carefully chosen to reflect the medieval sources of the legends. Built up of six varied shades the colour pack consists of 14 balls of Deramores Studio DK, including the captivating colours Peridot, Topaz and Citrine.

Stylecraft Life DK Mexican Diamonds Blanket Colour Pack

Designed by the talented Jane Crowfoot, the Mexican Diamond Blanket is the ultimate summer crochet. Made in the gorgeous Stylecraft Life DK this pattern was inspired by repeated diamond patterns like those found on rugs and wraps from Mexico. The border is our favourite bit, with the flowers overhanging the edges to create something truly original. The Chelsea Flower Show often incorporates water into its displays and this blanket is vastly made up of deep and mellow blues, with hints of pink and green, and with a little imagination could easily represent a range of flowers on display at the renowned flower show.

Stylecraft Special DK Daffodil Colour Pack

Nothing could be more inspiring than a rainbow of soft green and yellow hues and this Stylecraft Special DK Daffodil Colour Pack is a smooth and sophisticated selection of shades created by Heather of The Patchwork Heart. Stylecraft Special DK Hydrangea Colour Pack

A final favourite of ours and an excellent choice for injecting a burst of colour into your latest knit or crochet project is the Stylecraft Speciak DK Hydrangea Colour Pack. Inspired by the rich colours of dried Hydrangeas this colour pack can make up a whole bunch of fresh flowers in knit or crochet. A brilliant starting point to create a vibrant blanket for summer picnics or days spent lounging in the garden, the muted hues reflect a gorgeous garden colour palette.  Made using 100% acrylic Stylecraft Special DK is an excellent all-purpose yarn.

It can be an expensive job finding new outfits for all these occasions, but with the simple touch of accessories you can re-style outfit after outfit! The 20 To Make Knitted Flowers book is filled with designs ideal to pin on your jacket at a wedding or christening and you could even make it in an array of shades to mix it up for each event. Don't knit? Fear not there's a crochet version of the book too, which you can find here.

We've cherry picked a few of our favourite floral patterns that are ideal for the spring summer season. Why not not give them a go today...

Hayfield Baby Blossom Chunky

This yarn from Hayfield is cleverly printed so that as you knit with it the yarn itself creates  a pattern of tiny flowers. One of our favourite patterns to support the range is the below cardigan set, and aren't the self-patterning yarn results brilliant?  Available in five quaint shades the Hayfield Baby Blossom Chunky range is an acrylic and nylon blend perfect for your precious little ones.

That’s all from our Chelsea Flower Show inspired piece, we hope it’s encouraged you to grab your needles/hooks and some beautifully bright yarn ready to go sit back and relax in the sunshine and create some floral masterpieces!
